Stark-Condé is one of those wine estates where the setting almost makes you forget you came here for the wine — almost. Tucked away in the Jonkershoek Valley, the location is spectacular. Mountains on every side, immaculate green lawns, a lake in the middle and the tasting room sitting right over the water. It genuinely looks like someone designed a wine estate specifically for postcards. We came for the wine tasting and also spent time at Postcard Café, which makes the whole visit feel complete rather than just another quick tasting stop. The wines are excellent, particularly if you enjoy proper Stellenbosch reds — Cabernet Sauvignon is clearly taken very seriously here. What I liked most is that despite how beautiful the estate is, it doesn't feel overly flashy or manufactured. It is peaceful, relaxed and lets the scenery and wine do most of the talking. Definitely worth making the drive out from central Stellenbosch. Come with enough time to have a tasting, eat something and simply sit by the lake for a while. Wine: excellent. Views: slightly unfair to every other winery. 😎
