Wine tastings, terrace dining, and an on-site glass museum

About

Glenelly Estate is a winery in Stellenbosch set along the slopes of Ida's Valley. Founded by Bordeaux vintner May de Lencquesaing, our property produces estate wines including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and our flagship Lady May red blend. Guests can visit our tasting room, explore an on-site museum housing an extensive collection of historical glass art, or dine on our terrace bistro overlooking the vineyards. We are closed Mondays.

The Chardonnays are the highlight — worth working through more than one. Unusually good spot to bring a laptop and get some work done for an hour, which isn't true of most tasting rooms. Stay on for lunch; the restaurant is excellent in its own right. Epic views across the vineyards from just about everywhere. 🍷

Visited the glass museum and had booked lunch on the terrace outside. The museum has a very wide ranging collection. Top pieces and beautifully presented. The bistro has a stunning setting. The whole place is understated elegance, seats are comfortable and the menu provides ample choices. The food was very good, the wines truly delicious and served at the right temperature (all too rare) and the service by Dane a tremendous pleasure. Staff is immaculately turned out and we made a genuine instant connection with Dane. Very personable, highly attentive and warmly engaging. Overall a great success, warmheartedly recommended. Hard to beat.

Our visit to Glenelly was absolutely fabulous. The setting is breathtaking, the cellar omg and the arrangement in the glass museum is truly beautiful. The wine tasting with Lomay was very informative and delivered with such passion. All of the wines were incredible in their own way, and the Lady May left us quite lost for words! Oh and we purchased some delicious olive oil not sure I can resist opening it before returning to the UK . Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Glenelly Estate in Stellenbosch delivers a notably high quality tasting experience. The property is meticulously maintained, with ample parking, refined facilities, and expansive views over the Simonsberg slopes that set a confident and composed tone. The wines stand out for their precision, depth, and consistency across the range. They are thoughtfully structured, with excellent balance between fruit purity, acidity, and fine grained tannins, showing both immediate appeal and clear ageing potential. The Bordeaux inspired wines in particular demonstrate complexity and intent, positioning Glenelly well above average within the region. The estate’s character is closely tied to its founder, May de Lencquesaing, former owner of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Pauillac. Her influence is evident in the estate’s disciplined approach and classical sensibility, successfully translating Old World philosophy into a Stellenbosch context with impressive results.
