Dedicated Cap Classique sparkling wine estate in Elgin
Very glad we stumbled onto this gem while driving by. Charles Fox has multiple MCCs to sample and a beautiful view to boot. Sonja was an amazing host and very knowledgeable on the grapes and MCCs. She even shared some stories about the establishment. Lovely visit overall.
If you are looking to try some excellent Cap Classiques, you have to visit the Charles Fox Wine Estate. Their wines are a standout in the South African sparkling wine scene, and a visit never fails to impress. The road to the estate is mostly tarred, with only a short stretch of gravel that was in good condition when we visited. Having not been for a while, we were glad to see they have expanded their tasting area with a new room that offers beautiful views of the surrounding valley. If you are looking for some fresh air, they have a downstairs outside seating area with a kids' playground. If you plan on sitting there, just note you’ll need to walk up and collect your wines yourself, as they don't offer table service in that specific area. Focusing on the wines, every single one we tasted was great, catering to various flavor profiles and budgets. I always love visiting and highly recommend them if you are in the Grabouw winelands.
We absolutely loved this little gem in the Hermanus valley, great bubbles, incredible view and a lovely host, Charles himself served us exceptional MCC whilst enjoying the surroundings.
Warm and welcoming with views that will take your breath away. Exquisite feel to this family Estate where you really do get a sense of home. Champagne is absolutely exceptional and the setting is comfortable. So enjoyed our tasting Sabrage available as well.
What. A. Gem. We went through the full MCC experience, and yes, they only have MCC, and yes, I would highly recommend it. With an elegant variety, it’s well worth the drive. Sonja treated us to quite an insightful tasting and I learnt things not only about their range, but of others as well. (MCC ceases to age after its bottled, but a good one can last 8 years in the bottle- like I could wait that long😂) There is a slight dirt road which is drivable by a normal car. If you drive from Iona’s side, it’s a 10km dirt road though....
